Luke's Sailing Adventure (Active Kids) by Tuula Pere is a beautifully illustrated children's book. Luke receives a sailing boat for Christmas and cannot wait to sail it. At first, he is eager but becomes frustrated when there are too many small parts to build it. His older sister calms him down and helps him build the sailboat. Together, they sail the boat on the pond, but when his sister becomes tired, she leaves him alone. Luke decides it would be a good idea to sail his boat in the river, waiting for it at the bridge. When the boat gets stuck under the bridge, Luke tries to reach it but ends up in the rapid river. Will he be able to get out? Will someone miss him? And what will happen to the boat he spent so much time building?

Tuula Pere has written an entertaining and informative book. Luke's personality will appeal to other young children who become frustrated when things don't happen fast enough. Luke's mishap at the river ideally teaches the lesson that one should not do things that can be dangerous, like playing near a fast-flowing river. The story also addresses older children, like Emma, Luke's sister, teaching them to be kind and patient with younger siblings and not leave them alone near bodies of water. The colorful illustrations by Dane D'Angeli will delight young readers and keep them focused on this educational and entertaining story. Luke's Sailing Adventure will make a good addition to any library where young readers can explore the world through books.
