Lucky Dick: A Novel-in-Stories by Rod Dixon is the story of a young man as he realizes how his one bad decision destroyed his life. Lucky Dick Richards was just a biker who enjoyed life the way it was. However, when he decided to help a friend steal $4,000, his whole life changed. Abandoned and left behind with nothing but himself and his trusty bike, Lucky Dick is now a homeless man who cannot go back home. He is ashamed and ready to carve a new path for himself, only to realize that nothing is as easy as it is made out to be. He could go home and face the repercussions of his misdemeanor or he could move forward with his life and taste the freedom he always craved. What will Lucky do? What will freedom cost him?
Lucky Dick: A Novel-in-Stories by Rod Dixon was a fun novella, one that had me entertained and wanting more. Lucky (ironic name) is a very different character; he seems to know the difference between right and wrong, yet he cannot fathom the repercussions of his actions until it happens to him. He learns from his mistakes, he grows from there and he tries his best to improve his life from thereon. It is almost like a coming-of-age story about a man who made a terrible life decision and is now trying to rebuild his life from his past’s shadows. The fast-paced narrative is incredibly rich and detailed. I enjoyed how the author portrayed everything, how he lured me in and allowed me to become a part of Lucky’s life. This is a good, quick read that will be enjoyed immensely.
