Lucid by Natalie Roers is the story of Travis Hunters. Travis is disfigured and he is the target of unwanted and negative attention. Even the nurses in the hospital where he goes ridicule him. He tries to face the world by ignoring everything around him. Things change when his therapist gives him a talisman which takes him to the LUCID dreaming group. He meets Corrine there in the dream world. He longs to be accepted by society and he secretly yearns for Corrine's love. Travis finds himself getting all that he is looking for.
The theme is original and entertaining. The fantasy aspect of the story pulls you in and takes you to a dream world where your reality is replaced by imagination and fantasy. It is also a book that gives hope and expectations to people who are disfigured and crave social acceptance and love from society. The characters of Travis and Corrine remain in your mind for a long time. The book also has some intense scenes between Travis and Corrine, which add to the weight of the story.
The author should be applauded for writing such an original story and handling it with finesse and expertise. The author does not go overboard with emotions. The narration is fluid and all the characters are refreshing and have depth. Mystery, fantasy, love, and imagination have all been seamlessly woven into the story, making it a winner.
