“Love the Wounded” continues the story of Jake, Leigh, Mike Tim and Dylan whom we met in the first two books of this series. It seems all four of these young adults are still struggling with difficulties that life has brought their way. Tim is still trying to come to terms with losing his sister; Dylan will never let go of the anger and bitterness of his dad and sister being killed by a drunk driver; Leigh has just dumped Jake and decides to start dating Dylan within two weeks; and Mike struggles every day because of his dad’s drinking problem. But no one was expecting the accident that leaves Mike fighting for his life, all because of foolish jealously, and all because Leigh can’t decide which guy she likes the best, Dylan or Jake. What a dramatic ending to a wonderful series about five teenagers and their families who are struggling through life, miserable because of anger and bitterness! But the walls started to break down for all of them after the horrible accident that involved Jake, Dylan and Mike.

Lynn Dove has created a cast of teenage characters we grow to love over this three book series, and as I read “Love the Wounded” I couldn’t put the book down until the end because I couldn’t wait to find out what was happening next. I grew to love these five young people, and even though Dylan got on my nerves sometimes, he ended up finding a special place in my heart. I appreciate the way Lynn shows her readers how God loves us, and can heal the hurt and take away the anger and bitterness, no matter how deep it is. I encourage you to not only read this book yourself, but purchase it for your teenager too. It is a wonderful, good, clean book with twists and turns about issues on a young adult level that they will enjoy reading.

I have followed this author now since she first published her debut novel, Shoot the Wounded. At the time I was a senior in high school. Having read the entire series: Shoot the Wounded, Heal the Wounded and Love the Wounded, I have recommended this series to my nieces and nephews and to teens I know in church. Great books and this last book in particular is very impacting. I highly recommend all teens read this series!

One of my true passions is study of 19th Century Christin thought. It is a broad and sometimes complex area of study that goes far beyond the scope of texts and academic research. Much of that century and the movements in society at that time are reflected in the literature produced outside the academic world and even the church. Writers such as Emerson provided profiles of social ills and the transition of thought in Christendom as the wants and demands of a growing nation unfolded. Indeed, much can be gleaned from many of the writings published in that century. This theorem holds true for literary works of today as well. Among the printed word published in this time is a trilogy of works by Lynn Dove that undoubtedly reflects the social pressures and issues that face people today. The series of books provides an uncanny reflection of our Christian culture and the thought behind the faith that guides everyday actions. I can think of no better source for insight into the very heart and minds of Christians as they come to grip with the realities of the world and the often complicated ways we interact with others. These three books “Love the Wounded; Heal the Wounded; Shoot the Wounded” would themselves serve as a text for the study of ourselves as much as any social-psychology text available. In many ways this trilogy of keen observations in humanity is become a source for my own reflections as a Christian and as instructive in the perplexities that seem to perpetually develop in that walk. Although works of fiction, these compositions provide a great deal more than entertaining plots and characters; they become so engrossing that ones natural curiosity and emotion begin to dictate a ravenous desire to read every word savoring the experience throughout.
