Love, Lies, and Hocus Pocus: Allies by Lydia Sherrer is book three of The Lily Singer Adventures. Lily Singer is a wizard and a library archivist who values intelligence and playing by the rules. Facing old grudges, confronting mistakes of the past, and bending the law to help her friend, Sebastian, should be easy, as long as her inconvenient feelings for both Sebastian and a FBI agent that's working a case that hits too close to home doesn't make matters too complicated. Now she, Sebastian, her cat, Sir Kipling, and her mentor, Madam Barrington, have to race against the clock to stop a psychotic wizard before it's too late, but will they be able to put aside their differences to work together?
Whimsical and charming, Love, Lies, and Hocus Pocus: Allies is a perfect addition to the series, with comedy, mystery, and magic. Lydia Sherrer has a classy and smart storytelling style with a rich world and layered characters. The humor is the perfect blend of witty and snarky. The characters are distinct and flawed, fun and sarcastic, everything you want in a group of heroes. Sherrer captures the aloofness and attitude of Sir Kipling, hitting the mark with the voice of a cat. The other characters are distinct with voices perfectly fitted to their personalities. Sebastian and Lily have a fun banter and spark, making it easy to root for them the same way that Sir Kipling does. Every chapter is delightfully surprising, with twists and turns that keep you reading until the very end. The addition of mythology from King Arthur to the Fae is intricately and elegantly woven into Lily's world. I couldn't put it down!
