Lone Survivor by Marcus Luttrell is the story of a man who went to war against one of the worst men of all time. This Navy SEAL and his team risked their lives to bring down this man and to restore peace and harmony not only to America but to the people of the war-torn countries of Afghanistan, Iraq, and Iran as well. They worked together and suffered together and they most definitely lost some of their team to succeed in their mission which was nothing less than a well-trained, perfectly executed plan of attack on one of the most well-guarded places in the world.
I could not imagine all the things that the men on this Navy SEAL team went through. Marcus Luttrell gives a very detailed account of each man who was a part of the operation that day so you feel you actually know them. This book then details everything about the operation that brought about the beginning of the end of a several-year-long war and the consequences it brought up. Without the brave men of this team, our country would never have gotten as far as it has. We owe them a lot and some of them we will never be able to repay for their sacrifices. These men are just like us in many ways; they had families, homes, hobbies and things to come back for, but unlike us they were willing and able to do whatever it took to make sure Americans could sleep safely in their beds for even just one more night. It’s like the old cliché: ‘All gave some, some gave all.’ We will never be able to understand what these men went through but this book definitely helps us get closer.
