Little Red by Jess James is the first book in a series called Flirtatious Fairytales. This story begins on a Saturday morning with Ruby dressed in her red hooded cape, waiting for a bus to take her out to the country to visit her grandmother. Her parents thought it would be a good idea for Ruby to get away from the city for a while. She had just broken up with her boyfriend after she caught him in a sex video with Gretel, one of her friends. His name is James Wolf, or as his friends called him, “Wolf.” He had accidentally left his phone behind and Ruby found it.
The bus ride gave her time to realize what a possessive, jealous, and domineering jerk he was. When the bus finally arrived at road leading to Grandma’s house, she remembered that there was a path through the woods which would shorten her trek by 10 minutes. So she gathered up her basket of baked goodies and treats. Ruby realized too late that heels don’t work so well in the woods, and she turned her ankle and fell down. She unwillingly got the attention of tall, handsome stranger who came to her rescue.
Ms. James does a great job of recreating this “Once Upon a Time” classic, which instantly reminded me of the television series. When Jess introduces her savior in the form of a handsome woodsman, the temperature rises as their budding relationship kindles. Jess James has a knack for describing erotic romance that is, how she puts it, “More like adult bedtime stories.” All good stories have the heroic/happy ending moments, and this Flirtatious Fairytale doesn’t disappoint. Encore!
