Little Miss History Travels to Monticello Home of Thomas Jefferson: Volume 14 by Barbara Ann Mojica reminds us that there is so much in world history to inspire the mind. Little Miss History is always looking for someplace new to visit, to explore and learn about its history. When she visits historic Monticello, Thomas Jefferson’s home, she learns so much about American history. There are interesting tidbits about this man who made such a powerful impact on the newly created United States of America. He was a slave owner; he loved to collect paraphernalia from around the world, like busts of Roman art and Native American artifacts. He had a vibrant collection of books, which, when burnt, he replaced with a bigger library, one that he eventually sold to the Library of Congress. Little Miss History learned all of this and much more as she explored his fascinating home.
Barbara Ann Mojica’s educational book, Little Miss History Travels to Monticello Home of Thomas Jefferson, introduces Little Miss History and her passion for travel and history, which explains her original nickname. The book is thoughtfully dedicated to the many generations of descendants as well as those who lived and worked at Monticello. Then Little Miss History takes the reader to Monticello so they can follow her as she explores the home, one room at a time. With engaging and fascinating photographs, including superimposed images of our historian, Little Miss History, the story unfolds with care and attention to detail, allowing the reader to enjoy the experience and learn some interesting facts. At the end of the book, the author includes extra resources to help the reader, including a glossary of terms, important dates in the career of Thomas Jefferson, and an interactive exercise, asking readers questions about what they learned. This is a vibrant and exciting way to introduce history to young people.
