In Little Doggy Winston by Allyson Bradley, we are introduced to a dog named Winston who was white and fluffy with a wonky tooth. He lived with a nice family who loved him very much, but there was one problem. The issue was that he barked at everything. Winston barked at the mailman, the neighbors, the cat, the goldfish, and pretty much anyone who visited the Brunswick home got barked at by Winston. The family was getting annoyed because they couldn’t even hear the TV. It interfered with the children’s homework. The mother finally had an idea and began hiding his biscuits around the house. He was so busy looking for his treats that he didn't bark. Not even when the mailman came or when they watched television. The only time now that he would bark was when his family took him outside for a walk.
I thought Little Doggy Winston was a very adorable and fun read. I love how the story is based on an actual dog named Winston. The fact that the main character is based on a real-life dog makes it easier for the young reader to relate to him. The plot was simple but very intriguing and keeps the reader on their toes. I enjoyed Winston as he reminds me a lot of how my three dogs act. They also bark at anything and everything like Winston does. The illustrations are also beautiful and fit perfectly with the storyline. Allyson Bradley has created the perfect animal story that kids will enjoy.
