Dawn feels betrayed and deeply wounded when she discovers her boyfriend, Tom, and her best friend, Becky, making love. But things are different; she shouldn't be feeling bad, as they are in an earthly life and she is already in an eternal life. Josephine reminds her that such commitments end when one's spouse passes, and she should let the happy couple be. Dawn had passed away suddenly when she was hit by lightning. In the afterlife, she meets Josephine, who works for an organization called the Society of Searchers, whose work is to help people adapt to their new life, which can be challenging since you can still see other earthly events but you can't respond. Light Burns by Robert Russin is a wonderfully written book that is highly creative and unique. The flawlessly flowing plotline captured my imagination, and I was hooked from the first page to the last. I loved how vivid Robert was with the descriptions of events, places, and emotions of the characters. This helped to create a mental picture of what was happening, making the story very entertaining. I also found it to be thought-provoking on life issues and, in particular, appreciating the moments that we have with our loved ones. The characters were also well-developed, and I believe the easy-to-understand language used makes the book accessible to all kinds of readers. I cannot wait to read something else by this talented author.
