Leah's Gift: A Story About Reframing Loss by Destanne Norris is a poignant and beautiful story of the author's personal journey of grief and the loss of a loved one. She speaks about how grief can access the essence of life and its meaning and shares the painful and difficult moments of moving through memories. The author honors and celebrates her daughter's life by having an art exhibition, and she has used the images of artworks from this exhibition and used the title of each artwork as the chapter title. The book pulls readers into her world of sorrow and pain, and how through words and paintings she dealt with her angst and grief and made her reframe her questions so that she found new meaning and purpose. The book is haunting and the author's words will leave a deep mark in the minds of readers, especially those who have suffered loss.
Leah's Gift is honest, and though Destanne Norris's pain is raw and tangible, what makes readers connect with her words and grief is the dignity with which she deals with her emotions and feelings. Her story and vision also give readers hope, courage, and strength to deal with loss and also to realize how strong we humans are when it comes to overcoming adversities and challenges. The artwork is fabulous and her words in each chapter give glimpses of her life and her story. The underlying spiritual tones and the depictions of life, its nuances, complexities, and intricacies using art are unique and that makes this book interesting to read.
