Laugh & Learn About English with Luke: Seriously Funny English is a collection of hysterical stories compiled by an English language teacher. Each story is guaranteed to make you laugh out loud! Inside the book, author Luke Zimmermann shares stories about people trying to learn the English language, funny name translations that resulted in the process, pronunciation issues, misspellings, and funny wrong phrases. For example, there is one amusing story about Kharbash, the driving school owner, who might not have noticed that his name did not go too well with his business aspirations. There are so many stories like this one throughout the book, and it would be difficult to read it and not laugh.
When I first picked up Laugh & Learn About English with Luke: Seriously Funny English, I was worried that the book would poke fun at people, but it was not like that at all. Author Luke Zimmermann does not just list these stories, he provides a lead-in each time, explaining the situation and circumstances around the funny event. No names are given, and in many cases, it seems like the student had a good sense of humor about the incident. In writing these tales, the author’s personality really shines through, and as a reader, I was pleased with the respectful way he chose to compile the stories. The book is structured well, with funny chapter headings and a unique premise. There were many, many times I laughed out loud reading this book. I would highly recommend it to anyone who has struggled with the English language, language instructors, or readers who just want a good laugh!
