Lamellia: The Wizard in the Forest is a children’s fairy tale written by Gloria D. Gonsalves and illustrated by Silja Schüler. Set in a mushroom kingdom, this third book in the Lamellia series continues the story of Tiara, a lost human child who was adopted by the mushroom king. Tiara goes out to play one day and meets a group of little mushrooms who are headed into a dangerous forest to search for a friend. Tiara volunteers to help them despite the fact that an evil wizard lives there. In the adventure that follows, Tiara will learn the truth about her adopted mother, the queen, who was imprisoned for trying to harm her and whose sad song can be heard in the forest even from far away.
In The Wizard in the Forest, Gonsalves gives us a magical story about the importance of being kind and brave and understanding the consequences of our actions. Told in the narrative style of an old fairy tale and beautifully illustrated in color, it’s replete with a kind king, an evil wizard, a misjudged queen, and positive moral values. The universal story of good versus evil is told from the forest floor as Tiara makes new mushroom friends and they band together courageously to enter a frightening place to save another. Deception will be conquered by truth, and forgiveness and kindness will reign. Inspired by real mushrooms she saw in forests in Europe and Africa, Gonsalves skillfully threads an educational element into her fantasy setting. A wonderful series with positive values!
