Lady Changeling by Kenneth Altabef is a romantic science fiction tale set in the 1750s. Eric Grayson has been married for 10 years and has only just discovered that his wife is actually a faery spy. She belongs to a race that has long been hunted by the British and particularly by Eric’s family. Can Eric escape from the madness that haunts him as his life begins to unravel? Lady Theodora is fighting a battle of her own. A monster from the past has resurfaced and, to get rid of it, the man she loves will need to be destroyed. Just who can be trusted? With Lady Changeling, we get the perfect mixture of gothic romance, fantasy, and a little horror thrown in for good measure. Not for younger readers.
Lady Changeling by Kenneth Altabef is something quite different, a bit of a mixture of genres – historical romance, horror, science fiction and fantasy – all drawn together in an epic tale that will have you on the edge of your seat. The story is action packed with a lot of drama and plenty of twists that keep you guessing and keep you reading. The characters are an interesting mix, each developed with a good story, all bound up in a medieval mythological tale with a few compelling subplots that all lead to an ending that will surprise you. This is gripping stuff, a historical tale told in a modern voice that is, as the author says, really only suitable for a more mature audience. I loved this very enjoyable story, and I am looking forward to reading more from Kenneth Altabef in the near future.
