In the wake of losing his other half, his twin sister, Mason Dandridge embarks on a journey to uncover who is behind his sister’s murder. On his journey, he encounters Jessalyn Silverna who may be the clue to a string of murders and the culprit behind his sister’s death. Jessi, on the other hand, wants nothing to do with any of it; she is content to live in solitude with her savior. A traumatic past and broken dreams have left her a shell of the girl she used to be but can this stranger who appeared at their humble abode change that? Through many trials, the two form a bond neither of them knew they needed, and in light of nefarious plans, that bond might be what saves them both.
Sarah Westill’s Kynhaven is a beautiful and touching novel with strikingly unique characters and extensive lore. Each character introduced was so likable, especially the female characters such as Jessi and Katria. I loved the strength and independence they showed as women while still maintaining their femininity. Their male counterparts are equally brilliant in that they provide such good examples of what healthy masculinity looks like. Mason, in particular, was a joy to read about as he is so far removed from the usual male lead; he is strong and masculine but still emotionally sensitive and always respects the boundaries of the female lead. The story itself is emotional and heart-breaking while still having elements of mystery that keep you hooked and wanting more. Overall, Kynhaven is an amazing book to read.
