Knowing Your Mind: Lessons from neuroscience and artificial intelligence is a work of informative non-fiction penned by author Richard Lonsdale. As the title suggests, the work focuses on themes of human psychology, intelligence, and the very nature of what marks us as different from the animal species all around us. Using the comparisons and innovations which have been made by developments in artificial intelligence, the author is able to draw parallels and express insights on not just the mechanical concepts of how our brains work, but also the implications for more abstract and complex concepts like free will and consciousness itself. What results is a concise but mind-expanding expression of new and interesting ideas.
Author Richard Lonsdale writes with a clear enthusiasm for the wonders and incredible discoveries made in the field of Artificial Intelligence development, and coming at the topic from this angle shows the reader the true worth of exploring and developing these ideas as a benefit to human understanding, as opposed to simply tools of convenience. The narration is professionally formatted with an informative voice, but the enthusiastic nature shines in the emphasis and arrangement of the topics. I really enjoyed the deeper philosophical aspects of the mind that were discussed, particularly where our concept and expression of meaning comes from. For such a concise work, the organization and brevity of the text deliver a lot of information and real food for thought. Overall, I would certainly recommend Knowing Your Mind for everyone who has ever wondered about the true capacity and power of the human mind.
