Knot of Fear is a work of fiction in the psychological thriller subgenres and is the fifth novel in the Scott Brody series of thrillers. It is best suited to the general adult reading audience and was penned by Bryan Cassiday. The work can be read as a standalone adventure but it also follows on from other horror-thrillers in the series and gives us another chance to see private detective Scott Brody in action with a whole new case. This time, LA real estate agent Ivy Kingston has a nasty encounter in an online metaverse experience owned by her husband Orion. But when the attackers from the virtual world begin to stalk her in reality too, Ivy knows she needs help to survive and find the cause of their terrifying interest in her.
The Scott Brody novels have always been exciting for me to read and review, but none more so than this slick, modern cyber-noir installment, which was so full of exciting content that I hardly know where to start reviewing it. The whole concept of Rabbit World was deeply disturbing and opened up a new possibility for crime and danger, and the psychological effects of seeing the virtual and real world clash in such horrible ways made you think about your safety. The character development, dialogue, and overall presentation of the plot were also highly atmospheric and easy to follow despite the many threads that Bryan Cassiday weaves together. I found Knot of Fear to be a deeply engaging techno-thriller that I could not put down, and I guarantee you won’t be able to either.
