This was an AMAZING sweet book (though I reviewed the Audio version)! We recently purchased two Cocker Spaniel puppies for my two children, and we all instantly fell in love with the sweet pups. How can you not love an animal like that? They have a heart and a personality and they are just so darn lovable! So, I was excited to review Katie Up and Down The Hall. Just got that soft spot for adorable animals, I guess!
This is a true story. Yep. That's right. A TRUE story about an adorable, lovable dog named Katie, who belongs to not one family, not two families, but 3 families. Yep again. THREE families-5 people. She's a beautiful little Cocker Spaniel who makes her way up and down the halls of a Manhattan apartment building sharing her love and life with the 5 people she loves. She is adopted and owned by Plaskin (the author of the memoir), who then is "adopted" by his neighbors, Arthur and Pearl, and then the new neighbors John and his son move in and are taken into the new "family" as well. Katie is a dog that is full of love and shares that love with everyone. Through Katie you learn that it's not about what makes a family: blood, namesakes, etc. It's about WHAT makes a family: love. If you have love in your heart for one person or animal, you have love in your heart for more and if you just take the time to care, you have your family.
This is most definitely a 5 star book in my opinion. If you are an animal lover DEFINITELY check this book out. If you aren't an animal lover, and you just love a really awesome book, then this is the book for you. But, if you get emotional during a really great book full of passion for life and love, then please, take stock in Kleenex! By the end of this story, the Kleenex company will LOVE you!
