Just Like Me by Josephine Young is a lovely little book for young children that revolves around animals. The story is cute and simple. An egg hatches and the baby that comes out first sees a cow and realizes that it does not resemble the cow. As the duckling moves around the farm, he sees other animals like the chicken, pig and sheep and feels the same way. But none of the animals he meets tells him that he is a duck. Written in verses and clever rhymes, the story is endearing and the book is captivating for kids because of its beautiful illustrations.
'From a bale of hay nestled in the back
of a farmer's barn came a loud CRACK.
Hidden in the straw lay a trembling egg
and out burst a wing followed by a leg.'
The story begins from this cute little verse which heralds the arrival of a new baby who does not know what he is. The book is adorable and kids will love it for its colorful illustrations. It is a good story for read-aloud sessions in classrooms and libraries because of the verses and clever rhymes. Parents can also use it as a bedtime story book. It is a really nice read and will introduce kids to the names of animals. The book has an educational theme and the ending is extremely cute and endearing. Pictures and illustrations form a vital part of any children's story book and this book excels in its illustrations.
