Journey to Paradise is an eye-opening memoir about living outside the normal standards of society in a polyamorous relationship. Sarah Jolicoeur shares her journey of self-discovery when she finds herself divorced at the age of twenty-five and single again. She joins a gym to work on her body confidence and self-esteem. Sarah finds herself falling for her fitness trainer, Lovie. Lovie is an independent and nontraditional man who tells her that he does not believe in monogamy for himself. They embark on a non-monogamous relationship as she is thrust into the polyamorous/poly world. Sarah is tested throughout their unconventional relationship, finding strength in herself and the choices she makes.
Author Sarah Jolicoeur writes with a vulnerable transparency and humor that is engaging and relatable. She gives a fascinating glimpse into the poly/swinger world that helps the reader understand her choices and why that lifestyle can and does work for many people. Sarah writes with honesty about the challenges she faces like jealousy and insecurity in sharing her partner with other women. I learned a lot more about polyamorous relationships which helped open up my mind. I learned more about the family and relationship dynamics of having more than two people in a relationship. I found Journey to Paradise an enlightening and authentic read that satisfied my curiosity about non-traditional relationships and the different alternative lifestyles that are out there. I applaud the author for her bravery in sharing her experiences with the world and teaching us about other ways to live.
