Jophiel’s Secret is book two of A Lifeline Fantasy Series by Johanna Frank. Pipiera finds herself torn between leaving to help her old friend Jophiel in the mortal world or staying in the Kingdom’s Outer Courtyard to welcome her Mother. The powerful angelic escort Jophiel was on an earth tour himself but was being summoned back early at the behest of the king. To delay his return and help him, Pipiera travels back to the mortal realm, not knowing that there might be more to matters than she thought. Jophiel, currently known as six-year-old Joppha, is clever, sensitive, and determined. After being teased by Emerson, the child Jophiel runs away embarrassed and angry and sees a picture of a familiar place. It spurs him on an adventure to find his way back to his real home.
Jophiel's Secret takes us on an unexpected adventure. The book is an interesting blend of fantasy elements and reality. This tale is filled with a healthy dose of interpersonal conflict as well as warfare, which made me look forward to the next chapters. I sympathized with Matthew’s turmoil as he looked for Joppha and I could feel his confusion and fear when he saw things that weren’t there. His growth as a character is interesting to note especially when I remembered the important role he is to play in the future. I admired his bravery in the face of the unknown and his care for Joppha. Following Joppha’s story as he ran away was also an adventure. I was concerned for him and at the same time intrigued by his resolve to get back home. Johanna Frank has created an engrossing tale with captivating characters and gripping twists and turns that kept me at the edge of my seat right to the end.
