Jesus, Take the Wheel by Gina Kirkland takes young readers on a journey that begins when the main character’s trip goes awry. Afraid, the woman prays to Jesus asking him to guide her, and he answers her by showing her how it is all part of his divine plan for her life. She is assisted by a woman on a bicycle, who later becomes her lifelong best friend. So, the young woman’s car troubles lead her to something positive in the end. Next, her flight home enables her to help someone else in need. She repeats her prayer as a passenger gives birth to her baby on board. After this, she takes a train, but disaster strikes after a storm that causes flooding. Again, she prays to Jesus, and when she steps out and slips in the mud, she is helped by a kind man, whom she ends up marrying.
Jesus, Take the Wheel by Gina Kirkland is a Christian children’s book aimed at kids between the ages of three to nine years old. Kirkland’s wonderful rhymes tell a unique story that will not only hold your attention but also impart a wise lesson about surrendering your plans to God and remaining steady in your faith. The moral of the story for young readers is that you should trust God to always keep you on the right path, even if it might not be clear where you are going at first. Marissa Napolitano’s colorful illustrations enhance the story significantly, portraying the woman’s journey. Jesus, Take the Wheel is the perfect addition to your child’s library or as a gift for almost any occasion (Christmas, birthdays, baby showers, baptisms).
