Author Biography

Jan Sikes openly admits that she never set out in life to be an author. But she had a story to tell. Not just any story, but a true story that rivals any fiction creation. You simply can’t make this stuff up. It all happened. Through fictitious characters, the entertaining true story comes to life in an intricately woven tale which encompasses four books.
A series of music CDs accompanies the books, while a beautiful and unique book of poetry and art brings the story full circle.

And now that the story is told, this author can’t find a way to put down the pen. She continues to write fiction and has published numerous award-winning short stories. She published her debut paranormal romance novel, Ghostly Interference, in 2020, as Book One of The White Rune Series. Jagged Feathers is set to release January 31, 2022 as Book Two of that series.

She is a member of the Authors Marketing Guild, The Writer’s League of Texas, Romance Writers of America, and the Paranormal Writer's Guild. She is an active blogger (both on her own blog and at Story Empire) an avid fan of Texas music and a grandmother of five. She resides in North Texas.

Jagged Feathers by Jan Sikes is a suspenseful romance with an intense plot that will keep you invested until the end. Vann Noble served his country with pride, but when he lost a limb, he came back. With nothing more to do than reflect on his life and lick his wounds, Vann settles in a cabin outside a small town. He was looking forward to the isolation with the company of his misery and his angelic stray dog. He was not expecting to find Nakina Bird, an enigmatic woman who wanted nothing from him but shelter. With people out to kill her, Nakina had no choice but to seek shelter in a place where no one would even think of finding her. But as days go by, Vann realized Nakina had secrets that she was not ready to share, even if those secrets could get them killed. Would she tell Vann what she was hiding, or were they doing to die?

It has been a long time since I read a really good suspenseful romance and I am glad I came across Jagged Feathers. Aptly named, author Jan Sikes has done a fantastic job of creating an outstanding storyline that rocks the reader's world. It is intense, filled with emotions, and almost makes the reader numb with Vann’s pain. He struggled a lot; he had no purpose outside the military and was almost drifting away when Nakina came knocking on his door. They both needed each other, not only to survive but to live. Jan Sikes created an atmosphere that was sweltering at first, a little claustrophobic because Vann was feeling all these emotions. However, as he started to feel better, the pace changed, and so did the overall feel of the story. I loved the dialogues, the descriptions, and the weight of the story. Emotional and entertaining. I loved it!

Rena found her “happily ever after” and now it is his turn. Vann knows there isn’t a woman out there who would want a damaged man suffering from PTSD. Nakina Bird is on the run after her boss gives her a package and a key she must deliver. Her visions tell her he’s dead, and now she is in danger. Nakina jumps off a bus in a small remote Texas town, scared and sick. She begs Vann for help before her sickness overcomes her. Vann is unsure what to do, but leaving this beautiful woman to her fate isn’t something a soldier would do. Taking her home opens him up to the terrors he experiences every night since leaving Afghanistan. Helping her is never a question, but can he risk opening himself up to a love that could lead to rejection? Nakina’s insecurities put her on edge as she realizes the extreme danger she put them in. Can this nightmare ever turn into a “happily ever after”?

Jagged Feathers by Jan Sikes continues The White Rune Series after Rena passes the magical stone to Vann Noble. I found Jagged Feathers to be a well-written novel that combines the warrior hearts of a Native American and a dedicated soldier. Author Jan Sikes created an intense and engaging story that invites her readers to experience the dangers and love of her characters. The events and attraction smoothly tie Vann and Nakina together in a race to end her tie to the deadly gang. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a spicy action novel.

On a trip into town for some supplies, Vann Noble, a soldier who had a year earlier returned home from the war in Afghanistan and is battling severe PTSD, has a chance encounter with Nakina Bird. While she is running for her life in a frantic search for safety, Vann offers to take this mysterious, beautiful, panic-stricken woman back to his cabin where she will be safe and, hopefully, answer the heap of questions that he has for her. As the story unfolds, Vann learns that Nakina has been unwillingly and unknowingly pulled into the shady world of the Montoya drug cartel by her boss, Mr. Gordon. The cartel’s henchmen are hot on her trail and will not give up until they get what they want. Nakina’s life is in imminent danger, and now so is Vann’s. Finding a renewed purpose for his existence, Vann’s protective instincts and soldier mentality kick in full scale and he vows to protect Nakina, even if it means risking his own life.

Jan Sikes has delivered one of my absolute favourite books to date. Jagged Feathers tells a multi-faceted story that had me reading pages faster than I could turn them. What makes this book unique is the incorporation of many different genres that are brought together so seamlessly into one compelling and tangible story. From the peaceful and secluded backdrop of Vann’s cabin where he lives with his dog, Champ, to the dangerous and unpredictable new life he and Nakina have embarked on, this novel always keeps the reader hungry for what’s next. With a tastefully and aptly crafted storyline, Jagged Feathers will not disappoint.
