Jaden Goes to Foster Care: Helping Foster Children Find Comfort in Traditions by Corine Hyman, PhD, is an easy-to-read colorful book that can be used to teach youth within the foster care system (whether temporarily or permanent) to better understand the foster care process. During the time of transitioning to foster care, there are so many emotions floating around - from the birth parents and the foster parents to the child. In the end, children need to know that they are loved by everyone and that they are not to blame for their current condition. Children need to better understand how all of these elements work together for their good and well-being, as well as have an outlet to express these feelings. Jaden Goes to Foster Care: Helping Foster Children Find Comfort in Traditions by Corine Hyman, PhD, helps to give the child that voice.
I have worked with foster children but primarily emancipated youth and if the child has been in the system too long without some type of tool to help them emotionally work through the process, they will go through life as an adult confused, angry or depressed. This is why Jaden Goes to Foster Care: Helping Foster Children Find Comfort in Traditions by Corine Hyman, PhD, is crucial because it takes the child through the process of how they got into the foster care system and the outcome. Each case is different, but this tool is a great resource to help the child understand at least some of the process and give them hope, as well as to let them know that they are not alone.
