Jacob's Tales by Loreta Yono is a collection of seven short stories that teach children important life lessons in an interesting and entertaining way. Jacob, the little boy, lived in a faraway country where these tales happened after he traveled with his mom to Nap Land. Each story has its own moral and life lesson to convey to young readers. The first story, The Beauty of an Apple, is about sharing; Fee Fee the Fly is all about speaking the truth; Little Jacob's Plane shows how boys, girls, and dragons want friends to play with; The Slacker and the Ant show readers how hard work pays off; The Dream of Ugg the Ant again is all about sharing; Two Kings and a Barrel of Honey will make readers wonder if anyone can be taught to have a good heart; and The Umbrella, the last story in the book, is about being thankful.
All the stories are simple and easy to understand and the characters in each story have their own identity and individuality which makes them memorable. Vaiva Kulisauskiene's illustrations add color and brightness to the stories and pull children into the stories. Life lessons, good morals, and messages are best learned and understood when expressed with the help of stories, interesting characters, and adorable illustrations. Jacob's Tales by Loreta Yono is a good bedtime storybook for parents and grandparents to read out to their kids and grandkids. Tutors can use it too for read-aloud and storytelling sessions in classrooms and school libraries to teach students good values and life lessons in an interactive way without sounding preachy.
