Jacob's Backyard Safari by Carl Solomon Sr. is the story of eight-year-old Jacob's adventure into his backyard. He is curious about everything and one day, while sitting on the kitchen table having breakfast with his parents, Jacob tells them that he is going on a safari. He makes his backyard into a jungle with all the shrubs, plants, rocks, and grass, and expects a lot of insects to be there, waiting to be discovered. He changes into his beige shorts and T-shirt, hiking boots, sunglasses, and safari hat and goes to the backyard. Where does Jacob find his real jungle?
The story is charming and will make children want to explore their own backyards and have a look at the insects there, just how Jacob has done in the story. Children's storybooks are incomplete without illustrations and the pictures in this book breathe life into the characters and the scenes, making them palpable to young readers. The illustrations are lively and colorful, and will captivate children and pull them into the story. It is a good storybook that will help children realize that there are many things in their backyard that need to be discovered, and will encourage them to get familiar with the insects in their backyard. It is a good storybook for parents and educators to read out loud to youngsters so that they will be motivated to explore their backyard and see the hidden mysteries there. The story will also make them more adventurous.
