"Jackson Speed: The Hero of El Teneria" by Robert Peecher is a fun, fast paced read that brings you into the life of Jackson Speed. So you think you know who Jackson Speed is? A Hero? An Adventurer? A legend who has won the congressional medal of honor? Well, if you think all of these things you would be, according to his fond memoirs, wrong. He was a coward, a cheater and a man who has an adoring love of women, and who manages to get his way into the history books.
Robert Peecher has written a short and easy book, that combines historical facts with the character of Jackson Speed. While I read this one I waffled back and forth between liking Jackson Speed and not liking him. He does a lot of things that are not very honorable and yet when you look at the core of it, he is very human. We all have those choices in our lives to make if we are going to be cowardly or brave. Sometimes you just end up making the choice to be more cowardly than brave and Jackson Speed makes some choices that are not the best. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a fast and fun read, a read that will also make them ask some questions on what they think about a character and what makes them likeable or unlikeable. Robert Peecher has done a fine piece of work with Jackson Speed.
