Jack Sprat and Miss Lean by Pettrina Clarke is a short, sweet and very endearing romance about a man named Jack and how he fell for a woman who despises him. Jack Sprat has a big issue; he likes a woman named Sally Lean and she does not reciprocate. He wants her, he wants her love and he wants her affection, but she doesn’t even seem to care about the fact that he is alive. Attending a wedding should have been such a carefree experience, but he can’t seem to get her out of his mind and trying to think of ways to capture her attention. However, luck seems to be on his side when he finds out that Sally is at the wedding and he might actually get to spend some time with her. Now all he has to do is make her realize that he isn’t some scum stuck on the bottom of her shoe and is actually a guy worth taking a chance with.
Jack Sprat and Miss Lean was more fun and entertaining than I thought it would be. Pettrina Clarke did a great job at creating this light-hearted romance where Jack is literally sweating bullets to get Sally to like him. It was actually sweet to see how much he was trying and I had a great time reading about Sally giving him a hard time. This is a perfect tea time novel, where you pick up a book, get lost in it, and forget about your tea altogether. Jack is portrayed as a fine young man who is hell-bent on finding the best way to win the woman of his dreams, while Sally is a feisty young woman who is not afraid to speak her mind. This was a great combo and the two complemented each other. I loved this book!
