"It's Not All in the Genes…A story about LOVE" was written by Ricardo Covarrubias and Liz Jasso. The book was created as a love story, but not the love story that initially comes to mind. This book was uniquely written with a love story involving a child and her parents. The layout is simple and fits the conversationally written text. Written to explain their opinion and experiences with the term "It's all in the genes." Throughout both authors' lives they had experienced hardships and grief within each of their families, as well as having family members follows in the footsteps of their parents. They have written this book to tell their readers that they are prime examples that your genes do not make up who you become, but rather you as an individual make up who you become by a matter of choice.
Staying true to your individual opinions and beliefs despite the negativity family, friends, and even strangers may throw at you in any given circumstance is a key point throughout this book. The plot's main focus is on Adoption. The authors try to convey the importance of living in the now and teaching your children by example are two key factors in how and who they will grow up to be as adults and that their genetic makeup only plays a small factor.
"It's Not All in the Genes…A story about LOVE" by Ricardo Covarrubias is a beautifully written story in the voice of a father-husband. It details a couple's struggles with conceiving a baby of their own and the adoption process they decided to take on. Being adopted myself, I relate to this story on a personal level. Not only am I adopted, but I also have a twin sister. I have the genetic make up of my biological parents, as well as the exact same DNA as my twin, but I am nothing like any of them. We all may share the same blood, but we all live entirely different lives with our own unique personalities to go with them.
