It’s For The Best by Janet K. Shawgo is a historical romance novel that will appeal to every audience. Gean’s father raised her with an iron fist and subdued her mother. He was very wealthy and made life hell for everyone in the town. Gean went with her father as usual for debt collection when she was sixteen. She met Bo Hackney, Leroy’s ranch help, and the sparks flew. However, her father kicked against it and called Bo trash. He was preparing her for marriage to the highest bidder for wealth consolidation. Bo came from nothing; a young boy with no family, future, or pedigree. How will he court the wealthiest girl in town? They will fight the battle of their lives for a chance at love.
It’s For The Best by Janet K. Shawgo is a very interesting piece of work. Everything about it was flawless, from the unique and unpredictable plot to the character development. Envy, jealousy, greed, enduring love, loyalty, and courage were some themes explored in this book. I was impressed a great deal with the unprecedented turn of the storyline. One minute, I thought it was all about Bo and Gean; the next minute, Janet pivots towards Wilhelmina. You never truly know anyone because who would have thought Billie was so evil? Blessan and Leroy were smart, and I’m glad that they had each other. I loved the novel’s steady pace and lack of fluff. The writing style, time progression, and seamless dialogues kept me glued. Janet is such a talented storyteller. The book was short, but packed a punch! Nicely delivered!
