In Search of Justice by Rene Vecka is a young adult novel in the fantasy and epic genres. Vidarr Allefar did not know his parents, kin, or home and was the only d’oglemann in the village. The father of all gods called Vidarr to be his champion, and for Vidarr to survive outside of the village, he had to undergo rigorous training. Vidarr had to track down a legendary swordsman who had turned murderous and traveled across the hostile wilderness and the human city of Hjulstadt. Vidarr fights monsters with the help of allies and Aether creatures he encounters along the way. He is destined to prevent the extinction of a group of d'oglemann that he had never met. Will Vidarr be able to return to his home village after surviving his journey?
In Search of Justice is an engaging and easy read. The thrilling plot of Rene Vecka's novel kept me riveted to my seat the entire time, transporting me to a magical fantasy world. I was hooked from the start and was kept guessing until the very end. The characters were well-developed, and it was entertaining to read about a hero who used his hands rather than a sword in battle. Magic and the supernatural added to Vidarr's problems as he faced powerful creatures. Vidarr attempted to modify his perceptions of mankind, but all he discovered were new kinds of people and the few friends he could trust. I had a hard time putting the book down because it is well-written and has lots of interesting twists.
