In his memoir In My Life, Jean Andre Chery describes his lifetime of adventures to the reader. At the age of 5 Jean’s parents sought greener pastures in America, leaving Jean with his grandparents and siblings. During his time with them, he had his share of experiences with friends, love interests, and relatives. Although there were periods of grief after the deaths of his best friend, aunt, and grandparents, he also shares interesting stories of his escapades with his girlfriends. None of this diminishes the importance of God in his life. As a devout Catholic, he emphasizes the impact of knowing God in his life and how God directed his actions. Join the author as he journeys through his life as a child and teenager before he finally reunites with his parents.
I love the storytelling style of the author. He relates his experiences as he would to a friend. I admire his vivid recollections of his childhood and teenage years. I love Jean’s description of his youthful adventures, especially with those of the same sex. This is an account that shares the author’s tales of survival, love, heartbreak, pleasure, and passion. People can learn many lessons from the author’s life and apply them to their own, especially those from his religious side and his love for God. The memoir also reflects on the psychological aspects of Jean’s actions and the reasons for his decisions. It helps us understand his point of view and deeds better. The book is fun to read and appreciate. If you are looking for a story that will keep you entertained and teach you so many things while you are at it, I recommend In My Life by Jean Andre Chery.
