New York City in 1891 is in the grip of fear itself with not only killers but the city’s first-ever serial killer. Among this landscape of fear is twenty-three-year-old Emma Gilder who is determined to unmask the police corruption that has been plaguing the city. However, her undercover work as a streetwalker leads her in a much more dangerous direction. She is forced to use every one of her honed journalistic skills to survive against a serial killer that wants her dead and to succeed as a female journalist in a male-dominated time period. Does Emma Gilder have what it takes to survive and make it as a New York City journalist?

Immoral Acts (The Hunt for the New York Ripper, a Historical Crime Thriller) by Ted J Lampron is a historical event/era-based novel that would appeal most to a mixed audience of young adults and adults who enjoy reading about the 1890s, journalist protagonists, and serial killer mysteries and do not mind mature content in terms of violence and language. Move over Agatha Christie and make room for Ted J Lampron’s Immoral Acts. I have always enjoyed historically based mystery books, but it is often hard to find an author who is able to truly spin together a historically accurate mystery with elements of both suspense and love, but this author did so without flaw. I really liked how he stayed true to the time period in his representation of a male-dominated society, while still creating a strong female protagonist with whom I was able to connect emotionally. Overall, I have to say that I truly loved this book and I hope Ted J Lampron continues to write more books in this genre in the future!
