Wouldn’t you love to live next door to your Grandma? I know I would. Daily visits, shared secrets, and lots of Grandma’s delicious treats and, of course, those wonderful hugs. Three children are very imaginative in how they would visit their Grandma if she lived next door. They could climb a ladder, jump over the hedge with the help of a trampoline, or tunnel beneath the hedge. But, I guess we all know that the best way to visit Grandma if she lived next door would be to walk up to her door and ring the bell. After all, “Grandma is always so happy to see us. She just loves us so much.”
Young sibling authors, Gianna Vorscheck and John Vorsheck III, have written a delightfully imaginative story in If Grandma Lived Next Door. The two authors allowed their imaginations to take over as they tried to decide the best way to visit Grandma if she lived next door. With colorful illustrations and simple language, this story will certainly appeal to young readers and hopefully spark their imaginative ideas of how they might visit Grandma (if she lived next door). I love the way these two young authors have collaborated to develop a plot full of intriguing ideas: they’re actually leading young readers toward perfecting their own problem-solving skills. The story speaks of the precious bond between a Grandma and her grandchildren, one that wouldn’t keep them apart even if they lived far away from one another. But, even living next door (any grandchild’s wish), there needs to be a creatively ingenious way of going to visit her. These are two very talented young writers. I hope they keep writing for many years to come.
