My daughter and I loved I Will Never Leave You by Susana Pena. When Bianca’s mother is a few minutes late in picking her up from school, she starts to imagine scenarios as to why. Her active imagination has her on the verge of tears as she waits for her mother to show up.
In my opinion, I Will Never Leave You was pretty close to being the perfect book. I have been looking for a book with this exact message for my own daughter whose attachment to me is so severe that I cannot leave her school. Pena does a great job with this book. Not only did this book remind my daughter that I will never permanently leave her, but it also opened my eyes as to what she could possibly imagine when I am away from her. The illustrations in the book are very colorful and eye-catching. My daughter really liked and related to the story because Bianca looks a little like her and Bianca’s teacher also looks like her teacher. I loved that Pena included the recipe to her Chocolate Chip Cake at the end of the book. I cannot wait to try it out.
Overall, this is a great book with a good message for kids and adults! This is the type of book that I can see being read in the classroom as well as at home. I will definitely be keeping this book in my library. I look forward to reading more of Pena’s work in the future.
