I Know It Was You is an excellent novel by G.N. Kearney. Lauren receives a text message from her boyfriend, breaking up with her, so her friends take her out for the night. After getting wasted, Lauren’s friends took her home, tucked her in, and left her alone in her apartment. During the night, Lauren thought she heard the front door open but was too drunk to get up. The next morning, Lauren discovered that something horrible had happened to her, and she moved back in with her parents. Lauren is now quite reclusive and uninterested in interacting with others, but she is obligated by a friend to show up to a party where she meets Kane. Lauren looks forward to the future and puts her past behind her as their relationship grows.
I Know It Was You is complex and intriguing. G.N. Kearney did an excellent job of weaving Lauren’s past into her present. The events during the traumatic assault were handled with great care and empathy. It was a page-turner, and the suspense kept me on the edge of my seat. I was intrigued from the start and was kept guessing until the end. There was no way I could predict what would happen next. The characters were authentic and relatable. Lauren's character starts as somewhat naive and withdrawn from society but she grows through the story into a very strong woman who gets what she wants. The story is brilliantly written and was much more than I expected. The ending is excellent, and I didn't see it coming at all.
