The little boy is demonstrating how to do a back float in the children's book I Can Do A Back Float by Ashley Mills Monaghan. Soon the others in the pool will be able to float like him. He puts his hands behind his head, his legs are apart, his knees are bent and he is floating. He keeps his chin to the sky and belly button up. His mouth is closed tightly, and he breathes and counts till three. He can feel the water around him as he is doing a back float. The rest of the kids in the pool can also do the back float and they are all safe in the water.

This book introduces children to the back float which is the first of the many skills used in water safety. This is based on the Jim Swan Method and is educational and informative. Debbie Herbel does a good job with the illustrations and gives fluidity and movement to the story and the actions. Children will find it easy to understand the author's words by looking at the illustrations. The methods used in the book are a combination of some proven methods and some which are modifications. I like the lyrical way the boy explains to others how to do a back float. So, are you ready to learn to do the back float? What are you waiting for? Let us get started using the tips in this book!
