Music can stimulate our intellectual capacities as it develops creativity and imagination. It also drives the growth of social skills, which applies to both children and adults. When music students only focus on perfection, they may become disheartened. You can get frustrated if you don’t progress as you had planned, perhaps even losing hope or resorting to self-criticism. Susan Montgomery and Linda MacFarlane share some stimulating advice. With I Am a Gifted Musician: Affirmations for New Players of Music, the reader can sit back, reflect, and refocus while appreciating their achievements. The content is interactive because it invites us to write down our musical experiences and review our progress. In doing so we can discover things about ourselves that we had not noticed previously.
I liked I Am a Gifted Musician because it allows you to enjoy music in a new way. It may be harder for adults to learn to play an instrument, which is why they sometimes need encouragement. Susan Montgomery and Linda MacFarlane provide affirmations and empowerment to make the experience of learning to play a musical instrument more relaxed. The affirmations can inspire us to create personal mantras. I also found the images interesting, as each of them represents a different musical instrument. The book allows children and adults to enjoy it equally. We can all write down our thoughts, analyze what holds us back and take corrective action. With this book, we will not only find motivation, but we will also learn to feel the beauty of music.
