The short story Hush by B.R. Miller was a sad one. It's about a boy and his love and loyalty to his druggie mother. He is content with how his mother takes care of him, but after moving to a new apartment he realizes that he does not have it as good as he thinks. He starts to see everything he is missing out on.

Hush may be a short story, but the few words in it are enough to break your heart. Miller wrote it through the eyes of an innocent child. This innocence is clear as you read the words. I have seen few authors master this. At first, Hush seems like your regular story about a child with a parent addicted to drugs. Reading on, the story takes a dark turn. This may not be for everyone and may set off a trigger in some people.

It is not entirely dark. There were some happy parts in it, such as a child getting their first toy. The ending left me a little confused. I can see as to what really happened at the end being debatable in book clubs. The reason this story was so sad was because what happened to the boy really does happen to people. Despite the darkness of this tale, I still enjoyed reading it. This is the first of Miller’s work that I have read and I look forward to reading more of his work in the future. Good story!
