Hush, Hush: A Ronnie Lake Mystery by Niki Danforth is a twisting and turning mystery. Ronnie Lake is a 55-year-old divorced, empty nester who has re-invented herself as a private detective with the help of her German Shepherd dog, Warrior. Ronnie has solved a couple of cases, and though she is considered to be a rookie, she is determined to find a missing college girl, no matter what it takes or what kind of conspiracy she gets into. Mandy goes out on a date and never returns to her dorm room. Her roommate is concerned and hires Ronnie. The search for the missing girl goes in many directions. Ronnie finds a car at the bottom of a lake with a dead man; a politician and his wife may or may not be involved; her car is vandalized, and many more mysterious events take place.
Hush, Hush: A Ronnie Lake Mystery is the fourth book in the series but it stands on its own merit. Ronnie being older than the average PI we usually read about adds a motherly touch and an uplift to me as a senior citizen. All of the characters in this story are well presented and throughout most of the plot, it is questionable as to who is the good guy and who is the kidnapper and possible killer. Niki Danforth has written a really good mystery/sleuth story that left me wanting to go back and read the first three, as I anxiously await book number five. To all mystery genre fans, Hush, Hush is a must-read!
