"Huckleberry Finn Grows Up" by Sam Sackett brings us back to the world of the beloved characters of Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer. Deciding to get away from Aunt Sally's plans to make him behave, Huck runs off to Injun territory leaving his best friends Tom and Jim behind, to be his own man. On his way to get to Injun territory Huck becomes a drover for some settlers who are on the Oregon trail and with their help he gets to the territory he seeks. Adventure ensues and Huck is taken into a Cherokee tribe where he begins to learn how to grow up and become a man. On the journey to becoming a man he falls in love, learns about a new kind of racism and of course gets another good lesson in right and wrong.

As a relation to Mark Twain I was very curious to see how another author would give voice to such an iconic character as Huck Finn. I have to say that Sam Sackett has done a wonderful job of keeping the true voice of Huck while giving him a more adult feeling as he begins to learn more about life and what it means to be a responsible man. The story stays true to Mark Twain's way of the character all the while giving a fresh breath of life to it with a new adventure and new stories to be told. I liked the style of writing and the flow of the book is perfect. The read was fast and truly enjoyable. I would recommend this one to anyone who would like to say Hello to a favorite character again.
