Hope Endures by Emily Stalder Johnson is set in the late 1800s. Andy is the owner of a horse farm where he raises Arabian horses and Quarter horses. Andy's adopted son is 17-year-old Dublin. Dublin's birth father was abusive, especially after the mother died. Andy rescued Dublin from that life, accepting him as a son. There are evil men who want to hurt Andy and Dublin in order to steal the horses. One such person, in particular, is Carter Fallon, who was fired a few years before from his job teaching in the local school. Because the teacher had mistreated Dublin, Andy was instrumental in getting the man fired. Carter blames Andy for causing him to lose his job. Andy and Dublin are both able and willing to share their faith with people who don't know Jesus.
I loved the relationship between Andy and Dublin in Hope Endures by Emily Stalder Johnson. I appreciated what I learned about horses and training them. I enjoyed the descriptions of the land around the farm. I liked the fact that Andy and Dublin could forgive those who had hurt them, regardless of whether or not the person was even sorry for what they had done. I admired Dublin for being able to forgive his father, despite the turmoil in his mind and heart at the memories of the abuse. I find myself wondering what adventures Andy and Dublin might have in another book in the series, which I hope to read.
