It’s obvious right from the start that there’s more to the Ruby Vial than anyone knows, more than Virginia and more than Shawn. But there’s also something more about each of these teenagers than meets the eye as well. Shawn may seem like the bad guy trying to destroy everything but is he really? Is Virginia really the one that’s destined to make everything better? There’s only one way to find out and that’s by trusting to time to tell the truth. Holding the Future Hostage is a story of more than just two teenagers fighting one another and their past; it’s a story of love and deception, magic and mystery.
From the start you would think Virginia is your quintessential good little girl, always doing the right thing and Shawn is the bad guy trying to foil her plans. But everything is definitely not what it seems. Shawn seems like too important a character to disregard and it’s difficult not to relate to him and get drawn into his story. At the same time, however, it’s easy to see why Virginia distrusts him. Of course, the Ruby Vial causes even more problems and raises even more questions. What is it? Who does it belong to? Where did it come from? These were definitely questions I asked myself and the answers most definitely intrigued me. I couldn’t wait to keep turning pages and find out what would happen next to Virginia, Shawn, Bryan, Joy, Erik and everyone else that’s affected by the Ruby Vial in Tialla Rising’s Holding the Future Hostage.
