"Her Game, His Rules" holds the account of seventeen-year-old Jona. After being caught for stealing, she was summoned by a judge for a hearing. Unexpectedly, her mother whom she has not seen for years showed up and had arranged a certain punishment for her with the judge. What's more, she was accompanied by a much younger guy who had captured her attention the moment she laid eyes on him. After making a fiasco upon seeing her mother and upon hearing the judge's final decision, she reluctantly went with them to a foreign country. There, Jona met a new family. Despite the change that was brought about by the change of her situation, she still planned to escape her new home. However, her mother's odd younger companion had kept a hold of her and her heart. Soon, she was keeping ground and her life was taking a course she had never dreamed of.
The story is magical whereas the words were powerful enough to awaken not only my interest but also my heart. This sets the example that stories need not be sugar-coated to convey its message while trying to evoke emotions. Really, sometimes simple, understandable words are enough to make readers feel what writers want them to feel. Also, it made the story easier to be visualized. I had no trouble whatsoever diving into Jona's world as soon as I read the first page. The characters are believable. They are as human as anyone I know but I readily felt the divinity of the angel. I also felt him turning human at the brush of love. All in all, these characters combined with the plot and the little yet significant events which connect the story to make "Her Games, His Rules" an amazing book. There are other books about angels but this story is something you can't just ignore or skim through. Just like Julian, it shines with a blinding but pleasing light. By the end of the story, one will not only find a treat, more likely, he will end up with an inspiration.
