Author Biography

It took Patrick Mascola nearly five years to write "Hell on East Rock." Many thought he would be writing about his exciting life and the celebrities he has known from his days at the world-renowned resorts Eden Roc, the Fountainebleau and other Miami Beach hotspots he covered throughout his illustrious career. But Patrick came up with the most beautiful girl in the world, Jennifer Kendal, and the rest…well; you will just have to read the book.

Patrick Mascola was born and raised in New Haven, Connecticut. He is a 1949 graduate of Yale University’s Whitney School of Fine Arts. Upon graduation he was employed with Walt Disney and RKO Film Studios in California. He then ventured into entertainment writing and after moving to South Florida in 1953 covered every major headline act in the Miami Beach area for the Scripps Howard owned Hollywood Sun Tattler for 16 years . In 1969 he took over as public relations director for the elite Eden Roc Hotel and in 1981 he became the publisher of a chain of entertainment and hospitality periodicals.

Patrick was featured in 1985 on the cover of Variety and referred to as “the Dean of South Florida’s Night Life.” He currently resides in Pompano Beach and is the publisher of Around Town Newspaper.

“Hell on East Rock: A Love Mystery", written by Patrick Mascola, will capture your attention from the first page itself and will keep you turning the pages until you reach the very end to solve the missing pieces of the puzzle. Jennifer has a close relationship with her brother Tommy and her world is forever changed when Tommy falls off of East Rock one night while they are high. As Jennifer moves on in life, she struggles with trying to come to terms with what her life used to be and what it means as well as how Tommy died and if she is the one to blame for his death. At the same time Jennifer’s parents deal with secrets in their lives and how life has turned out for them.

This is a well-written book; however, the reader should be warned that it is filled with vulgar language, sexual situations and drug use. Jennifer and Tommy are children of a wealthy couple and their lifestyle is depicted as being filled with secrets and having access to drugs and a life full of fun. The writing is very descriptive and I loved the imagery that is used to describe the scenes. The depiction of how Jennifer stays at Woodland Manors and works through her memories and sorts through her thoughts in order to figure out that fateful night is excellent and it joins all the intriguing pieces of the story to fit into the mystery.

I am lucky to have met author Patrick Mascola and to have been one of the first to have read his book. What a great mystery romance novel....a real page turner...every chapter makes you want to keep going to see what happens next. This is not just a great novel but should be made into a great movie too! It is a must for every college graduate, especially women, to read before going into the working world as it really explains how things were and are in the business sector. It may be fiction but what Patrick writes about is also true. And recently Patrick was selected as one of only 20 authors to be part of the 25th anniversary of the Broward Library's Literary Feast March 15 to 18 at Pier 66 and Nova University, which is a major honor in itself for any author.
