Heavenly Creatures by Jenna Ji Min Lee is a fantasy novel that will take you on a wild adventure with celestial beings. Tara’s life is turned upside down when she meets a new classmate named Sun. From the very beginning, Tara feels uneasy around him. Tara normally trusts her gut instinct when she meets new people, but with Sun, she starts doubting her judgment. One day, she overhears Sun speaking with someone, and when she peeks to get a better view, she sees him talking to a translucent floating old man. Tara runs away before Sun notices her, but the next time they meet, he acts as if he knows what she did. Sun whispers something in Tara’s ear, which awakens her. He confesses that he is not an ordinary being and that he sees that Tara is a Dragon. Join Tara and Sun as they venture into the world searching for their true purpose.
I loved reading Heavenly Creatures by Jenna Ji Min Lee because the story was unpredictable and intriguing. I did not know where the story was going, but I was enjoying the ride. The author introduces new characters and theories at every turn. Tara and Sun travel to different destinations across space and time. The story not only introduces the reader to this new world of celestial beings but also has information about world geography and history. Sun and Tara’s development was beautifully written, and their chemistry was great. The story blends familiar mythological tales like the Monkey King and dragons with new and creative elements. This is a memorable book with many hidden lessons. I recommend you get a copy to discover its wonderful message.
