There are but a few short sentences in the Bible concerning Mary and Martha, yet those sentences pack a message that still cries out to people today. These two women opened their home to Jesus Christ. Mary sat at His feet listening to Him while Martha prepared a feast. Martha began to get frustrated and wanted some help. Who can blame her?
As I pondered this story, I realized that I have done the same thing. I rush around, preparing the house and the food. Usually I resist help, after all, I would have to take time to explain to someone what I want done, and still they might not do it my way. I am so frazzled by the time company arrives I really cannot enjoy them.
Having A Mary Heart in a Martha World by Joanna Weaver is beautifully written and has a message for all of us whether we are a Martha, a Mary, or a bit of both. The story of the man with the stones brought tears to my eyes. How often have I tried to carry burdens that God never intended me to carry? Having A Mary Heart in a Martha World is a life-changing book. Weaver illustrates why we should all simplify our lives by placing Christ at the center. She offers her own experiences throughout this book. I hope to lead a book study on this early next year. Christian women will cherish Having A Mary Heart in a Martha World.
