Have You Seen Me by Katherine Scott Nelson is about two close friends, weird kids Chris and Vyv, who spend a lot of time together. The story recounts the upheavals and incidents that happen in each one's life and how they are correlated to each other.
The story takes a turn when Vyv runs away and Chris starts working for Albert. Vyv still keeps in contact with Chris secretly. The character of Albert is also very strange. The book has an aura of mystery and intrigue to it. The abandoned house, the barn, Vyv's mystifying emails -- they all add up to the unusual feel of the story.
The author has managed to keep the suspense going after a slow beginning. The dilemma that Chris faces -- torn between his friend Vyv and his employer Albert -- forms the crux of the book. What are the upheavals Chris is going to face with two odd people in his life?
The book is a novella, so a short read. However, the author has managed to convey the elements beautifully. The reader does not feel that it is a short book. For a novella, it is extremely descriptive. The language is beautiful and includes a lot of detail on the characters, the milieu, and the incidents.
