Harry is a boy in a man’s body who is in the wrong place at the wrong time. Harry tries to make everyone happy and his childlike way usually succeeds until one fateful night. Harry sets off to his aunt’s house and takes his favorite shortcut through the park. Unfortunately, he comes upon a young girl who has just been stabbed and, not understanding what the consequences of his action may cause, he immediately rushes to her, holds her in his arms and tries to offer her comfort. He is instantly accused of her murder and taken into custody. Harry does not really understand what is happening and just wants to go home to his parents and sister. He answers yes to all of the questions the police throw at him and soon finds himself in jail, having a trial, and being convicted of the murder. I cannot reveal the dramatic ending; you will have to read the book yourself to find out Harry’s fate.

Harry Lane is Innocent by J. Scaddon is a story that is hard to put down. J. Scaddon’s story is a roller coaster of feeling both joy and sadness and I quickly found myself rooting for Harry. I could not help but be smiling, crying, and shaking my head at how people treated Harry. This is not a very long book, only ninety-five pages, but it is a strong and powerful plot with characters that you will either love or hate. Harry Lane is Innocent is a five-star winner; don’t pass this one by.
