Happy Adventures of Adiyeh the Lagos Chicken by Oluwaseyi A. Alade is the cute little story of a chicken and her adventures. This is the first book in the series and readers will find it entertaining and exciting as she takes you through her journey. Her world of toys, baskets, roosters, insects, cereals and much more is filled with humor and fun. The book, along with the story, is educational as it gives tips about domestic fowls. Children get a chance to observe their mannerisms, which is truly fascinating for them.
The story of the big fat hen Dera and her friend Aytay the pigeon will enthrall kids. The illustrations are indeed cute and colorful and they give a personality to all the characters and make the scenes visual and lively. Apart from the story angle, what attracts me to this book is that it has educational tips for kids. Adiyeh, the cute little chick with bright feathers, is another interesting character in this story. It is good to use this in school libraries for read-aloud sessions and interactive sessions in classrooms. It will make a good bedtime story book. All the animal characters are cute and lovable and their contribution in the plot makes the story what it is. The activity pages are interactive and helpful to kids. The glossary at the end of the book, with the meanings of the terms used, is also useful and teaches young readers new words.
